Since my family moved to Jerusalem in 1919, for the purpose of renovating the tiles of the Dome of the Rock on the temple mount, we became one of the pioneers and founding families of Armenian ceramics in Jerusalem. In 1919, my grandfather was a master painter, and his expert refined brush work, helped establish this art in Jerusalem, and transform it into a part of the local Jerusalemite art and culture.

My father Stepan, continued in his father's steps, bringing this art to new heights, when he was commissioned in the 1960's, to make all the street name signs of the Old City, painted on ceramic tiles, which still exist today.

Today, I too continue in my father's footsteps. I carry on my family tradition of making Armenian ceramics in The Old City of Jerusalem, as the 3rd generation.

As Armenian ceramics became a part of the local Jerusalemite culture and art during the past 100 years, it was only natural that Judaica Jewish art became integrated in Armenian ceramics. It was another way to express and represent Judaica art, being more valuable because it is hand painted in Jerusalem.
