Custom made Via Dolorosa sign

Hand painted on 9 tiles and wood framed with a hanger on the back.

The design includes the original line separating the Hebrew from the Arabic and English. This is because when my father Stepan Karakashain painted the original signs, he was first comissioned by the Jordanian municipality of Jerusalem in 1966 to do the Arabic and English street names.

Then in 1967, Mr. Teddy Kolek asked him to add the Hebrew on top. I walk to my studio every day, and when I look up at the walls of Jerusalem, I see these beautiful signs and am reminded of the story behind them.

When you visit Jerusalem's Old City today, you will be able to see these signs. They visually describe the different periods of jerusalem's recent history.

I continue my father's tradition, making these custom signs in my studio in jerusalem's Old City, at 3 The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate Street, very close to Jaffa Gate.

Dimension including wood frame: Aproximately 19.7 x 19.7 inches (50 x 50 cm)
